SoleX Mission
SoleX’s mission is to foster sustainability and innovation within marine transport, while promoting the adoption of renewable energy.
University of Exeter students recently returned from a successful debut at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, competing against teams from 25 nations to showcase innovation and renewable energy in the marine industry.
Renewable energy engineers
We are a student-led project comprising undergraduate and postgraduate engineers from the University of Exeter's Penryn Campus. We achieved a successful debut at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge, competing against teams from 25 nations to showcase innovation and renewable energy in the marine industry. Placing 11th overall and excelling in the speed category with a 6th-place finish!

New season's ventures
For the 2024/25 season, we aim to compete in The Ultimate Solar Boat Challenge in the Netherlands. This 200-kilometre race navigates canals and waterways along the historic Elfstedentocht (Eleven Cities Tour) route in Friesland. Originally an ice-skating race on frozen waterways, the Elfstedentocht has been reimagined as a solar boat race. The modern event spans three days, with stops in Stavoren and Franeker.
SoleX ambitions
To achieve this, we need to raise £15,000 to enable the team’s participation in the 2025 race. We are seeking sponsorships and donations to reach this goal. Additionally, we aim to secure further funding to support Solex's long-term growth, providing more opportunities to develop and innovate.
